Coco Colada™ Bowl

$11.99 – 490 Cal

The Coco Colada™ Bowl is part of the Coconut Bowls group at Smoothie King. These bowls were started across the country in August 2024 to give customers more smoothie bowl choices. It uses a coconut sorbet base, which is very different from the açai or pitaya bases used in other bowls. This makes it much creamier and thicker, with a sweeter and more tropical taste. The base is topped with Purely Elizabeth® Ancient Grain Granola, fresh pineapple, fresh diced strawberries, whole blueberries, and a drizzle of honey.

The coconut sorbet base is special because of how it is made. Unlike bases made of blended frozen fruit, sorbet is churned while it freezes. This mixes in air, making it smoother and lighter, but still strong enough to hold the toppings. Because of this, the Coco Colada Bowl is easy to eat with a spoon right away, without being frozen solid like an açai base can be. The pineapple is the most important topping here—it adds a sharp, juicy sweetness that matches perfectly with the coconut. This creates the classic “piña colada” flavor.

This bowl is entirely plant-based, dairy-free, and gluten-free. It uses non-GMO fruits and has no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. Because it contains honey, it is not vegan. At a price of $11.99 and with 490 calories, it works as a full meal rather than just a snack. People often eat it for breakfast, to recover after a workout, or as a big lunch.

Benefits of Coco Colada™ Bowl

MCTs from Coconut Sorbet Base

Coconut contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). This is a type of saturated fat that the body processes differently than common long-chain fats. Instead of being stored as body fat, MCTs go straight to the liver to be used for immediate energy. This makes the Coco Colada Bowl a helpful choice for people on ketogenic or low-carb diets who need a fast energy boost.

Bromelain from Pineapple

Pineapple is one of the few foods that contains bromelain. This is a natural enzyme that helps break down proteins and may help reduce swelling, improve digestion, and help muscles recover after a workout. Bromelain is strongest in fresh pineapple, so using fresh toppings in this bowl is a great way to get these enzymes.

Vitamin C from Multiple Fruit Sources

The mix of pineapple, strawberries, and blueberries provides a lot of vitamin C. This vitamin helps the immune system, helps the body make collagen, and assists with absorbing iron. Vitamin C also acts as an antioxidant to protect cells from damage. Getting this vitamin from whole fruit is better than taking a pill because the fruit also contains other natural nutrients that work together.

Manganese from Pineapple

Pineapple is very high in manganese, a mineral that is important for building strong bones, healing wounds, and processing carbohydrates. Just one serving of pineapple can provide over 75% of the manganese you need in a day. For active people, getting enough manganese helps with energy and recovery.

Antioxidants from Blueberries

Blueberries are famous for their high antioxidant levels. They contain anthocyanins—the natural parts that give them their blue color. These have been linked to lower stress in the body, better brain health, and a healthier heart. Even though there are fewer blueberries in the bowl compared to other ingredients, they still provide important health benefits.

Meaningful Fiber Contribution

With 8 grams of fiber, this bowl gives you about 21–32% of the fiber an adult needs daily. This fiber comes from the granola, coconut, and all the different fruits. It includes both “soluble” fiber, which slows digestion to keep blood sugar steady, and “insoluble” fiber, which helps keep your digestion regular.

Natural Honey for Quick Energy

Honey is a natural source of simple sugars (glucose and fructose) that the body absorbs quickly for a fast energy spike. Unlike plain white sugar, honey also has small amounts of enzymes, amino acids, and antioxidants. For athletes who need to refill their energy stores quickly, honey is an effective natural sweetener.

Lower Protein, Higher Carbohydrate Profile

With only 3 grams of protein, the Coco Colada Bowl is one of the lowest-protein options at Smoothie King. Most of the nutrition comes from carbohydrates (101 grams) and some fat (12 grams). This makes it a good choice for “carb-loading” before a long run or for people who need a lot of calories, rather than those looking for high protein to build muscle.

Gluten-Free and Clean Ingredients

The Coco Colada™ Bowl is certified gluten-free and contains no fake colors, flavors, or preservatives. For people with celiac disease or gluten allergies, this bowl is a safe and healthy choice that doesn’t require any special changes.

High Sugar Content — A Consideration

It is important to note that this bowl has 70 grams of total sugar. Much of this comes from the natural fruit, but some comes from the honey and the sweetened granola. For people watching their sugar, such as those with diabetes, this bowl might not fit their goals unless they make changes. Removing the honey and asking for less granola can lower the sugar quite a bit.

Recipe — Make It At Home

Ingredients (1 serving)

Base:

  • 1 can (400ml) full-fat coconut milk, chilled overnight
  • 2 tablespoons coconut water
  • 1 tablespoon cane sugar or coconut sugar
  • ½ teaspoon coconut extract (optional, for stronger coconut flavor)

Toppings:

  • ¼ cup Purely Elizabeth® Ancient Grain Granola
  • ½ cup fresh pineapple, diced
  • ½ cup fresh strawberries, diced
  • ½ cup whole fresh blueberries
  • 1–2 tablespoons honey, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Combine the chilled coconut milk, coconut water, sugar, and coconut extract in a blender. Blend until completely smooth.
  2. Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions until it reaches a soft sorbet consistency. If you do not have an ice cream maker, pour into a shallow dish, freeze for 45 minutes, then stir vigorously with a fork. Repeat every 30 minutes for 2–3 hours until you reach a smooth, scoopable texture.
  3. Scoop the coconut sorbet into a wide bowl.
  4. Layer granola across one section of the bowl, followed by pineapple, strawberries, and blueberries arranged in separate sections or rows.
  5. Drizzle honey generously over the entire bowl.
  6. Serve immediately.

Notes:

  • For best results, use full-fat coconut milk — light coconut milk will produce a thinner, icier sorbet rather than a creamy one.
  • The sorbet can be made in advance and stored in the freezer for up to one week. Let it sit at room temperature for 5 minutes before scooping.
  • For a vegan version, replace the honey with agave syrup or maple syrup.
  • For a protein boost, blend a scoop of vanilla plant-based protein powder into the sorbet base before freezing.
